ghostlei 近年来，互联网的迅速普及对机器翻译（Machine Translation，简称MT）提出了更新的要求。如今，互联网已成为机器翻译技术的重要应用领域。根据LISA协会的统计数据，仅网上翻译服务一项，全球每年就有200亿美元左右的需求。
“在机器翻译方面，目前欧洲语言间的互译服务已相对完善。而欧亚语言互译，由于涉及到不同语系之间的转换过程，其难度更高，遇到的问题也更多。一般来说，目前机器翻译的准确率约为60%。但是，如果利用了翻译记忆库(Translation Memory，简称TM)——一个包含海量正确译文的语料数据库，其准确率可提高至80%。”LISA监管委员会代表、IBM全球化机构董事Charles Pau告诉记者。
目前，尽管机器翻译只能帮助人们了解文本的大意，无法让用户获得逐字逐句的译文，但其优势仍是不言而喻的。机器翻译不仅应用广泛，在技术文档的翻译、软件的本地化以及一些专业技术领域中扮演着重要角色，而其最大的优势在于它的速度。通过记忆、分析、交互的配合使用，机器翻译的速度要比传统人工速度快5至6倍。以中英文互译为例，专业人工翻译每小时仅能翻译200至500个中文字，而机器翻译完成这一工作只需几秒钟，且准确率可达80%左右。
“在本世纪，机器翻译是不可能取代人工翻译的。在现阶段，机器翻译软件只能作为辅助翻译工具。”比如 air bed manufacturer 人会翻译成 气床生产商 ，机器不一定会这样翻译的。
